General Description
Designed to prevent nuclear flashblindness and thermal injury to aircrewmens eyes during intense light flashes; darken and lighten automatically; the electro-optic lens shutters consist of a laminated polarizer, electroded transparent ferroelectric ceramic wafer (plzt), and a second polarizer (analyzer) oriented at 90 degrees to the first and at 45 degrees to an electric field impressed on the wafer; in open mode lens transmits 16 percent or more light; closed mode, achieved by discharging the wafer, causes absorption of light in the analyzer at a density of 3.0 or more in less than 150 microseconds; operating temp range is 55 porm 45degrees at altitudes to 50, 000 ft; storage temp.
