Routes of entry: inhalation: no skin: no ingestion: no
health hazards acute and chronic: letter from department of
transportation to eagle picher dated july 17, 1995 in reference to
this battery. Squib actuated battery, gp-4156 is considered
non-regulated for transportation based on test ing required under
49 cfr 173.159(f). Based on these tests the battery is also
considered non-hazardous. In case of case breakage and loss of
electrolyte; contact with potassium hydroxide can cause se vere eye
and skin irritation and burns. Exposure to zinc msy cause skin
irritation. Inhalation of zinc oxide fumes may cause fume fever.
effects of overexposure: symptoms resulting from fume inhalation from
ruptured cells are chills, fever, tightness in chest, cough,
irritation, burns, pain.
First aid: none normally required. First aid for cases of exposure to
ingredients from a broken cell: eyes: flush with water for 15
minutes. Get medical attention. Skin: wash exposed skin area with
soap and wate r. If symptoms persist, get medical attention.
inhalation: move to fresh air. Get medical attention. Ingestion: if
battery is ingested, open or not, do not induce vomiting. Give
large amounts of water , if available 1-part vinegar o 11-part
water or fruit juice. Get immediate medical attention.
