health hazards acute and chronic: contact with electrolyte causes
immediate severe damage; may result in blindness. Contact with
electrolyte may cause serious burns to skin. Contact with nickel
may cause skin sensitization, eczema or nickel itch. Ingestion of
electrolyte causes throat tissue damage and gi tract damage.

ingestion of nickel causes nausea & intestinal disorders.

inhaled-inhalation of koh mist causes irritation of nas al mucous
and respiratory tract. Inhalation of cadmium oxide may cause
respiratory irritation, chills. Chronic overexposure to cadmium
compounds may result in pulmonary edema, kidney damage.

explanation of carcinogenicity: niosh recommends that nickel & cadmium
be treated as occupational carcinogens.

effects of overexposure: eyes-blindess, severe damage, irritation.

skin-serious burns, itch. Ingested-tissue damage to throat & gi
tract, nausea, intestinal disorders. Inhaled-irritation of nasal
mucous membranes & respirator y tract tissues; cadmium oxide-dry

water. If available give several glasses of milk. Get immediate
medical attention. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious
