Routes of entry: inhalation: no skin: no ingestion: no
reports of carcinogenicity: ntp: yes iarc: yes osha: yes
health hazards acute and chronic: inhalation: during normal use
inhalation is unlikely route of exposure due to contaniment of
hazardous materials within the battery case. Ingestion: if the
battery case is breached in the digestive tr act, the electrolyte
may cause localized burns. Skin absorption: no evidence of adverse
effects from available data. Skin contact: exposure to the
electrolyte may result in chemical burns. Exposure to nickel may
cause dermatitis in some sensitive individuals. Eye contact:
exposure to the electolyte may result in severe irritation and
chemical burns.
explanation of carcinogenicity: cadmium & nickel have been identifed by
ntp as reasonably anticipated to be carcinogen. Epa= as b1,
probable human crcinogen. Iarc lists cadmium as 2a, probable human
carcinogen. Acgih lists cadmium a s a2, suspected human carcinogen.
effects of overexposure: inhalation: inhalation of cadmium dusts or
fumes may cause throat dryness, respiratory irritation, headache,
nausea, vomiting, chest pain extreme restlessness and irritability,
pneumonitis, and brocho pneumonia. Ingestion: ingestion of cadmium
compounds may result in increased salivation, choking, nausea,
persistent vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, anemia, tenesmus,
and kidney disfunction. Skin: exposure to nickel may cause
dermatitis in some sensitive individuals. Eye contact: exposure to
the electrolyte may result in severe irritation and chemical burns.
medical cond aggravated by exposure: a knowledge of the available
First aid: swallowing: do not induce vomiting. Seek medical attention
immediately. Skin: if the internal cell materials of an opened
battery cell comes into contact with the skin, immediately flush
with water fo r at least 15 minutes. Inhalation: if potential for
exposure to cadmium or nickel fumes or dusts occurs, remove
immediatelyy to fresh air and seek medical attention. Eyes: if the
contents from an open ed battery comes into contact with the eyes,
immediately flush eyes with water continously for at least 15
minutes. Seek medical attention.

Stability indicator/materials to avoid: yes
the battery cells are encased in a non-reactive container; however, if
the container is breached, avoid contact of internal battery
components with acids, aldehydes, and carbamate compounds.
stability condition to avoid: batteries are stable under normal
operating conditions. Heat, open flames, sparks, and moisture.
hazardous decomposition products: oxides of cadmium and nickel.
conditions to avoid polymerization: will not occur.
Waste disposal methods: return to sanyo energy corp. For recycle.
contact your sanyo representative for more information on the
earthsaver 2001 recycling program. Batteries must be handled in
accordance with all applicable s tate and federal regulations. Do
not incinerate or subject battery cells to temperatures in excess o
f 212f.
