Health hazards acute and chronic: ethyl alcohol: in human, exposure to
5,000-10,000 ppm resulted in eye & mucous membrane irritation.
exposure over1000 ppm may cause headache, irritation to the eyes,
nose & throat. at concentrations above 5,000 ppm, eye & upper
respiratory tract irritation, stupor, fatigue & sleepiness may
occur. Sorbitol solution: dose dependent irritation of the stomach
was the only effect noted in long-term s tudies in animals w/doses
of 0.5 to 3 g/kg/day. In humans, large doses have a laxative
effect. A 70% solution did not induce skin/eye irritation & was not
a sensitizer.
effects of overexposure: alcohol: drowsiness, lassitude, loss of
appetite & inability to concentrate.
First aid: eyes: flush with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical
help. Skin: wash with soap and water until free of residue.
inhalation: remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Ingestion:
seek prompt medical attention. For additional first aid
