health hazards acute and chronic: acute effects: causes skin irritation.

harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through skin. Vapor or
mist is irritating to the eyes, mucous membranes and upper
respiratory tract. Acetonitrile is metobolized in the liver to
water, formic acid and hydrogen cyanide. The cyanide is further
metabolized to thiocyanate. The onset of symptoms is generally
delayed pending conversion to cyanide. Advers e effects may include
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, rashes and
cyanosis. Other symptoms include mental excitement or depression,
drowsiness, impaired perception, incoordination, stu por, coma and
death. (efts of overexpos)
effects of overexposure: n/p. health hazards acute and chronic
(cont'd): chronic effects: target organs: central nervous system,
liver, kidney, blood lungs. to the best of our knowledge, the
chemcal, physical and toxicolo gical properties have not been
thoroughly investigated.

First Aid

First aid: if inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing give
artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

flush skin with water. Contamination of the eyes should be treated
by immediate a nd prolonged irrigation with copious amounts of
