Health hazards acute and chronic: swallowing: gastrointestinal
irritation, nausea, vomiting. Aspiration of material into lung
cause chemical pneumonitis which can be fatal. Inhalation: nose,
throat irritat. High concentrations cause a cute central nervous
system (cns) depression characterized by headaches, dizziness,
nausea, confusion. Eye: irritation.
effects of overexposure: skin: defatting & irritation of the skin.
repeated exposure to crystalline silica may cause pneumoconisis, a
progressively disabling lung disease. Pre-existing respiratory
conditions may be aggravated by exposure to crystalline silica.
medical cond aggravated by exposure: reports have associated
prolonged/repeated occupational overexpo to solvents w/permanent
brain/nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately
concentrating/inhaling contents harmful/fatal.
First aid: ingestion: do not induce vomiting. Call poison control,
hospital e.R. Or physician immed. Inhalation: remove to fresh air.
restore breathing. Get medical attention. Eyes: flush w/large
amounts of wate r, lifting eyelids occasionally. Continue for at
least 15 minutes. Get medical attention. Skin: remove contaminated
clothing. Wash affected area w/soap & water. Get med attent if
