Windlass

A base or deck mounted device having a revolvable whelped whee (s) (wildcats) over which a chain is passed for raising and lowering a load. The device may have a revolvable head(s) or spool(s) (gypsy or capstan head(s)) around which one or more turns of rope must be taken for exerting power.
