Pad Eye

A rigid, metal, platelike item with an edgewise projection containing one or more openings. the opening is usually round or elliptical in shape. it is normally welded, bolted, or otherwise fixed to a structure. it is used as a catch or point of attachment for other items such as hooks, rope, and the like. excludes, staple, hasp; strike, catch; and bracket, eye, non rotating shaft. see also adapter (1), aircraft mooring; adapter (1), aircraft towing; towing eye, aircraft; bolt, eye; coupler (as modified); and hasp, hinged.
