Fusible Plug

An externally threaded cylindrical item, usually containing a fusible core, or a tapered smooth finished press-in insert made entirely of metallic eutectic substance. If without core, the item may be machined internally or have provisions to accomodate same. It is a safety device for aircraft wheels (prevents heat induced tire explosion), boilers, compressors, and similar equipment.
